Sana’a University’s Faculty of Medicine Holds Workshop on NARS and Academic Accreditation Standards

Today, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University organized an extensive workshop titled “National Academic Reference Standards (NARS) and Academic Accreditation Standards for the Clinical Division” under the theme “Toward Pioneering Medical Education”, sponsored by the University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti.
The opening session, attended by Prof. Adel Al-Matari, Chairman of the Council for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance (CAQA), and Prof. Ibrahim Al-Muta’a, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, featured a welcome address from the University Rector. He emphasized that academic accreditation is a strategic necessity for enhancing the educational process and its outcomes in alignment with the demands of the labor market. He highlighted the special attention Sana’a University gives to medical education due to its direct impact on human health, noting that adherence to quality standards ensures the graduation of competent doctors who can compete regionally and internationally. He also affirmed the university’s dedication to maintaining a modern academic environment that aligns with scientific advancements while addressing community health needs.
Faculty Dean Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari commended the faculty members for their efforts in fostering a culture of quality, stressing that applying accreditation standards would positively influence graduates’ competency.
External Coordinator for Academic Accreditation and national expert, Prof. Saleh Bahaj delivered a detailed presentation on NARS, highlighting its role in aligning educational objectives with learning outcomes and identifying key themes and challenges in the field.
The workshop saw broad academic participation, including Prof. Huda Al-Emad, Dean of the Academic Development & Quality Assurance Center (ADQAC); Prof. Arwa Othman, Vice Dean for Student Affairs; Prof. Anwar Al-Mughalles, Vice Dean for Hospital Affairs; and Prof. Ahmed Al-Mujahed, Vice Dean for Quality Affairs, as well as heads of department, faculty members (both senior and assistant), and representatives of the faculty students.
The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, including a commitment to applying NARS and accreditation standards across all academic activities, strengthening the culture of quality among faculty members and students, and developing medical programs in line with scientific advancements while addressing the needs of both society and the labor market.
Participants highlighted that this workshop represents a practical step toward enhancing the quality of medical education at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, contributing to the preparation of highly qualified medical professionals capable of competing at both regional and international levels.
