Sana’a University Hosts First General Meeting for Clinical Doctorate Program Students at Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences

Sana’a – September 29, 2025 (Rabi’ al-Thani 7, 1447 Hijri)
Under the auspices of the Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Hasan Abdullah Al-Saadi, and the Rector of Sana’a University, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, the first general meeting for students of the Clinical Doctorate (MD) program was held today at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The meeting, which included heads of departments and academic program coordinators, was organized to strengthen communication between faculty and students and explore ways to enhance the quality of medical education at the university.
At the opening, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, welcomed the attendees, affirming the deanship’s commitment to organizing regular meetings to foster dialogue between faculty members and students, which contributes to qualifying doctors with high skills in scientific research and clinical practice.
In his speech on the occasion, the University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, praised the tremendous efforts of the faculty and staff in delivering distinguished medical education. He stressed the university’s dedication to supporting specialized graduate programs and the necessity for students to redouble their scientific and research efforts to raise the quality of medical education and meet the needs of the community and the job market. Prof. Al-Bukhaiti added that the university is focused on preparing doctors and researchers capable of innovation and contributing to the development of the healthcare system, while encouraging applied scientific research that serves society. He emphasized that the program’s outcomes will strengthen the university’s standing locally and regionally.
For his part, the Minister of Public Health and Environment, Prof. Ali Shaiban, stressed the importance of the Clinical Doctorate program in advancing higher education and medical research. He explained that universities are measured by their Master’s and PhD outputs, not just their undergraduate programs, and pointed out the differences between studying for the Arab Board and the Clinical Doctorate.
Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Hatem Al-Dois, urged researchers to publish their studies in internationally peer-reviewed journals, thereby enhancing the position of the Faculty of Medicine at Sana’a University as a pioneering institution in scientific research at the national level.
Meanwhile, both the Chairman of the Council for Academic Accreditation & Quality Assurance (CAQA), Dr. Adel Al-Matari, and the Chairman of the Supreme Medical Council, Dr. Abdulkarim Shaiban, noted in their interventions that the program stands out for its integration of clinical practice with research, offering opportunities to specialize in advanced subfields.
The meeting included an explanatory presentation by Prof. Adel Al-Ghaili, the Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Academic Affairs, and introductory remarks by heads of departments and program directors focusing on the program’s objectives and admission requirements, in addition to fruitful discussions with attendees on mechanisms for improving the quality of medical education in line with global standards.
During the meeting, the university and faculty leadership honored the Minister of Education and the Minister of Health, the chairmen of the Academic and Medical Councils, and the directors of programs and courses with shields and certificates of appreciation. They also honored the students who passed the first and second stages of the program with certificates of appreciation.
The meeting was also attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for the Higher Education Sector, Prof. Ibrahim Luqman; the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ibrahim Al-Muta’a; as well as vice deans, hospital directors, and heads of departments and programs.
The meeting concluded by emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation between the university and the relevant ministries, and the necessity of working to improve the quality of medical education in Yemen. The attendees also affirmed the importance of supporting scientific research and raising the level of students’ academic achievement.
