Sana’a University President Inaugurates 4th Translation Festival at the Faculty of Languages

Sana’a – Saturday, November 15, 2025 (Jumada Al-Awwal 24, 1447 Hijri)

Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Rector of Sana’a University, inaugurated today the activities of the Fourth Translation Festival at the Faculty of Languages, organized in cooperation with the University Student Forum under the theme: “The Role of Translation in Addressing Contemporary Challenges.”

During the opening, the University Rector toured the sections of the exhibition accompanying the festival, which showed students’ work and projects introducing various fields of translation, including cultural, literary, religious, and legal translation, as well as technical, artistic, political, media, agricultural, and medical translation terminology.

In his remarks, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti stressed the importance of translation as a vital bridge that enables Yemen to convey its message and identity to the world. He praised the efforts of the Faculty of Languages—its academic and administrative staff and its students—for their initiatives and activities over the past years despite difficult circumstances.

The Rector also commended the efforts exerted in preparing the exhibitions, noting that such activities provide an important space for discovering student talents and enhancing their practical skills.

The event was attended by the Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs, Mr. Adel Al-Hababi; several faculty members; and a large number of students from the faculty.

In his speech, Dr. Mohammed Al-Nasser, Dean of the Faculty of Languages, explained that the faculty is keen on linking students’ skills to real-world practice, channeling their abilities in service of the community, and strengthening the presence of translation in contemporary issues.

Assoc. Prof. Mujeeb Qasim, Head of the Translation Department and General Supervisor of the Festival, praised the support of the university leadership and the faculty administration for the department’s activities, which enabled students to present their creative projects across various translation fields.

The exhibition’s Technical Supervisor, Mr. Ali Salah, explained that the exhibition content focused on addressing humanitarian issues and contemporary events through diverse visual media and scientific approaches, contributing to enhancing student awareness and broadening their knowledge.

The two-day festival includes academic competitions in English and research seminars discussing the role of translation and translators in addressing the issues of the modern era.

The exhibition featured eleven thematic booths where students presented visual displays, models, and multilingual informational panels covering the impacts of contemporary humanitarian crises, the challenges facing the peoples of the region, as well as panels illustrating popular resilience and national sacrifices. Other exhibits highlighted Yemen’s efforts in supporting just causes at the regional level.
