Sana’a University President Chairs Preparatory Meeting for Graduation of First MD Program Batch

Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukaiti, Rector of Sana’a University, chaired an extensive meeting at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences today. The meeting was dedicated to reviewing the progress of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program and preparing for the graduation of its first batch of students—a program recognized as one of the University’s most important postgraduate medical initiatives. Discussions also focused on enhancing the program’s academic and professional readiness to align with the needs of the national healthcare sector.
At the beginning of the meeting, the University Rector listened to feedback from students enrolled in the program and discussed the academic and procedural challenges they face in their final stages of study. He reaffirmed the University’s full commitment to providing all necessary support to ensure the program continues with high quality and professional effectiveness.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdulhafed Thawabah, the Rector’s Assistant for Medical Faculties and Hospital Affairs; Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; Dr. Arwa Othman, Vice Dean for Student Affairs; Dr. Adel Al-Ghaili, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies; and Dr. Hisham Al-Jabali, University Director General of Scientific Research. During the meeting, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti emphasized that the MD program represents a vital pillar of the University’s mission to qualify advanced medical cadres in research, application, and professional practice. He indicated that the program aims to prepare a generation of specialized physicians capable of meeting national needs in precise medical specialities.
“We regard the MD program as a long-term scientific investment that enhances the University’s standing and contributes to the development of the health sector,” he stated. “The University is committed to providing all resources required to complete the program according to the highest professional and academic standards.”
The University Rector noted that the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is a fundamental pillar of the University’s scientific journey, and the graduation of this first cohort marks the inaugural result of the specialized postgraduate track developed by the University in recent years. He stressed the University presidency’s keenness to overcome any obstacles and ensure the successful graduation of the first MD program batch in a manner befitting the University’s legacy and the students’ efforts.
For his part, Dr. Abdulhafed Thawabah affirmed that the program represents a national gain for the health sector, as it contributes to preparing specialized cadres with high applied skills, thereby enhancing the efficiency of medical services and elevating professional practices in health institutions. He praised the efforts of the University and the Faculty in making the program a success.
In turn, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari explained that the program was designed to reflect an advanced training and research methodology aligned with global quality standards. He affirmed that the continuous development of the program is an essential part of the Faculty’s strategy to achieve international academic accreditation and enhance the University’s reputation as a reference center for medical knowledge.
“We are committed to aligning the graduation procedures with the highest international quality standards,” he added. “This will bolster the confidence of the local and international academic community in the Faculty’s programs and establish a new phase of institutional development.”
The meeting addressed the final stages the students are undergoing, stressing the necessity of completing all requirements for the graduation of the first cohort as a fundamental step within the program’s development path and a key to its continued success.
The session concluded with an agreement to establish a comprehensive executive plan to improve the program’s academic and administrative performance and address any existing challenges, ensuring its sustainability and ongoing development in accordance with global standards.
