Mr. Fatehi Ahmed Nasser Ibrahim Al-Dhubaibi was awarded a PhD degree in Educational Psychology–Measurement and Evaluation for his dissertation titled: A Comparison between Item Response Models in Estimating the Parameters of a Test Bank for the Educational Measurement and Evaluation Course and Its Scaling among Students at Sana’a University, which was submitted to the Department of Educational Psychology, Faculty of Education – Sana’a University. The dissertation defense was held on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:
| # | Committee Members | Designation | Position |
| 1 | Prof. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Sufi | Internal Examiner | Chair |
| 2 | Assoc. Prof. Najah Abdulrahim Mohammed Othman | Main Supervisor | Member |
| 3 | Assoc. Prof. Fawziyah Qasim Yahya Al-Ammar | External Examiner | Member |
The study primarily aimed to compare item response models in estimating the parameters of an item bank for the Educational Measurement and Evaluation course and scaling it among Sana’a University students.
The study yielded a number of key findings summarized as follows:
- Item parameters, person parameters, and test information functions were estimated for the test forms constituting the item bank using one‑parameter, two‑parameter, and three‑parameter item response models, based on both experimental and simulated samples.
- No statistically significant differences were observed in the estimation of individuals’ ability parameters across the one‑parameter, two‑parameter, and three‑parameter models attributable to model type.
- Scaling the test forms of the item bank using the one‑parameter model proved to be the most appropriate and accurate approach for the experimental sample data.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:
- Selecting the most appropriate item response model that best fits data.
- Establishing a Measurement and Evaluation Center at Sana’a University, similar to those in other Arab and international universities.
- Developing item banks for academic courses in the faculties of Sana’a University based on item response theory models.
The dissertation defense was attended by faculty members, researchers, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
