Suha Hussein Mohammed AL-MUQAYAD
Obtained the Master degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with an Excellent average, from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, Sanaa University, for her Master’s thesis entitled:
Condylar Position Changes in Anterior Disc Displacement with Reduction
The discussing committee consisted of:
♦ Assistant Professor Dr. Sam Abdul-Kareem DA’ER, Principle Supervisor
Committee Member,
♦ Assistant Professor Dr. Abdullah Hasan Thabet FARHAN, Internal Examiner Committee Member, and
♦ Associate Professor Yasser Ahmed Abdul-Rab ABDULLAH, External Examiner Committee Member Head of Committee.
This Master’s thesis aims at evaluating the relationship between condylar position and temporomandibular disorders before and after treatment.
The study comes out with some results: Concerning the clinical findings: A significant improvement is observed in clinical parameters, along with a decrease in the total TMD dysfunction score. However, improvement in deviation is yet marginal. Radiographic Findings: No statistically significant differences are found between the symptomatic and asymptomatic sides; however, the joint spaces appeared smaller on the symptomatic side. After lavage, the joint spaces on the symptomatic side increase; however, these changes are not statistically significant. A notable decrease in the superior joint space is seen on the asymptomatic side following lavage.
The researcher presents a number of recommendations at the end of this study: Post-lavage analyses reveal no significant changes in joint spaces on the symptomatic side; however, there is an increase in superior joint space and a reduction in posterior space. Yet, the researcher asks for more studies with more cases with follow-up periods so as to comprehend best the long-term impact of lavage.
Attendees of the session were a number of academics, researchers, interested students of the major, as well as the researcher’s colleagues and some of family members.
