University Council Directs Preparation of Plan to Expand Three Departments into Independent Faculties

The University Council held its 8th regular meeting for the academic year 1446 Hijri today at the University Presidency in the Capital Secretariat, Sana’a, chaired by Professor Dr. Al-Kasim Mohammed Abbas, the University Rector.
During its session today, the Council reviewed a letter from the Minister of Education and Scientific Research, which included the recommendations of the committee tasked with studying the issue of restructuring the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the Council affirmed the following:
1. The Council thanks the committee tasked by the Ministry for the efforts it made to prepare this report.
2. The Council affirms its commitment to implementing the recommendations submitted by the committee.
3. The recommendations are referred to the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center (ADQAC) to prepare a well-studied and timed plan within two weeks to convert the three departments in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (Medicine and General Surgery, Laboratories, Nursing) into independent faculties.
The Council also approved the regulations, controls, and procedural guide for postgraduate studies and scientific research.
During its session, which was attended by the University Vice Rectors, the Rector’s assistants, and the Deans of Faculties, the Council approved the awarding of doctoral degrees to twelve students and the awarding of master’s degrees to fifty-four students in a number of specializations in the centers and faculties.
The Council approved the adoption of the clinical doctoral program in Pediatric Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The Council also approved the adoption of the program and courses for the Microbiology Diploma at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences for graduates of the Faculty of Science, Department of Microbiology.
The Council also approved the graduation lists in the Faculty of Education (Arhab), Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Education (Khawlan), Faculty of Mass Communication, Faculty of Dentistry, and Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
The Council approved the bridging program project for students wishing to continue their studies in the Bachelor’s degree after completing their studies in the Diploma degree in all specializations except for Human Medicine, provided that it is implemented at the beginning of the next academic year 1447 Hijri. Besides, the Council reviewed the annual achievement report on the websites of the University’s faculties and centers, and the Council praised Sana’a University’s leading position in the Webometrics ranking, as the University maintained its position at the forefront of the ranking of Yemeni universities according to the Webometrics World Ranking for its second edition of 2025, which has been recently issued.
The ranking included more than 52 Yemeni universities and colleges that competed according to criteria that include the virtual presence of their websites, the clarity ratio (50%), transparency (10%), and the strength and excellence of research (40%).
Sana’a University advanced 23 places globally in this ranking compared to its position last year, while it advanced locally by 510 places over the nearest Yemeni university.
During its session today, the Council discussed a number of topics related to postgraduate studies, academic affairs, student affairs, and center affairs and made appropriate decisions regarding them.
At the beginning of the session, the Council reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting and approved them.
