The study aims at evaluating the efficacy of arthrocentesis in managing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders among Yemeni patients in Sanaa City and comparing different techniques for optimizing treatment outcomes. It also aims at contributing to a better understanding of the TMJ disorder management in the Yemeni population.
The study comes out with some results as follows: Both single and double needle techniques for the TMJ arthrocentesis are effective in improving mouth opening and reducing pain levels. However, the double needle technique demonstrates a slightly greater improvement as for the maximum mouth opening. The choice of technique should be tailored to the individual patient’s needs and the surgeon’s expertise.
The researcher presents a number of recommendations at the end of this Master’s thesis, of which: further longitudinal prospective studies with many participants and scaled questionnaires as for follow-up are favorably recommended. Yet, mobilization amongst BA students on: Qat sessions for long hours are harmful for the temporomandibular joint and mouth washing is primordial.
Attendees of the viva session were a number of academics, researchers, students of the major, the researcher’s colleagues and some of family members.
