PhD Degree Awarded to Ms. Samah Al-Soufi in Business Administration

Ms. Samah Mutleq Ali Al-Soufi was awarded a PhD degree in Business Administration for her dissertation titled: The Role of Total Quality Management in Improving Organizational Performance through Organizational Culture in Private Hospitals in the Capital Secretariat – Sana’a, Yemen, which was submitted to the Center for Business Administration at Sana’a University. The dissertation defense was held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The study aimed to examine the role of Total Quality Management and its dimensions—namely, top management commitment, customer focus, continuous improvement, human resource focus, and information technology—in improving organizational performance across its key dimensions: efficiency, effectiveness, and customer satisfaction. It further investigated the mediating role of organizational culture, measured through its organizational values, beliefs, and expectations, within private hospitals in Yemen.
The research yielded several key findings, including:
- TQM has a positive impact on organizational performance in private hospitals in Yemen.
- TQM positively influences the organizational culture in such hospitals.
- Organizational culture, in turn, positively affects organizational performance in private hospitals in Yemen.
- The quantitative model demonstrated a very good fit, indicating the presence of a partial mediating role played by organizational culture in the relationship between TQM and organizational performance.
The dissertation concluded with several significant recommendations:
- Top management should prioritize the improvement of Total Quality Management due to its vital role in improving organizational performance.
- It is essential to maintain up-to-date technologies across all administrative, medical, and technical functions.
- Achieving efficient and effective performance requires continuous professional training of personnel across various departments.
- A strong administrative and clinical culture within an organization significantly contributes to performance improvement.
- Managers should work to align their organizations’ culture with its performance objectives to improve performance.
The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and professionals, as well as the researcher’s colleagues, friends, and family members.
