University Rector Chairs Expanded Meeting to Review Development Projects and International Accreditation Readiness at the Faculty of Medicine

Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, Rector of Sana’a University, chaired an expanded meeting today at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences to assess the progress of ongoing academic development and infrastructure rehabilitation projects and review the faculty’s readiness to complete the requirements for international academic accreditation from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
The meeting was attended by Prof. Abdulhafedh Thawaba, the Rector’s Assistant for Medical Faculties and Hospital Affairs; Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; along with members of the steering committee, heads of departments, and a number of university officials.
During the meeting, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti affirmed that Sana’a University is progressing according to a comprehensive strategic vision to advance its medical faculties and enhance the quality of medical education. He noted that the projects currently underway at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences are designed to provide a modern academic and research environment aligned with the latest standards in medical education.
He stressed that international academic accreditation remains a top priority for the university, describing it as a key milestone in strengthening the faculty’s academic standing and preparing highly qualified medical professionals capable of competing at both regional and international levels. He also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to completing all development projects in accordance with the highest technical and academic standards.
For his part, Prof. Abdulhafedh Thawaba highlighted that the ongoing modernization and equipping of the faculty represents a major step forward in the development of medical education at Sana’a University. He emphasized that the university focuses on improving the quality of medical programs and upgrading educational infrastructure to support both academic and clinical training.
Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, praised the continued support provided by the university leadership, noting that this support has enabled the implementation of several key projects, including the rehabilitation of teaching laboratories, the medical museum, the computer laboratory, in addition to maintenance and upgrading across various faculty facilities.
He added that the faculty is witnessing accelerated academic and administrative efforts aimed at meeting international accreditation requirements through the strengthening of quality assurance units, academic advising, and graduates, in addition to enhancing institutional performance.
The meeting also reviewed progress reports on current projects. Attendees received a presentation from the national expert Mr. Saleh Bahaj on the standards and requirements of (WFME) accreditation, while Eng. Abdulhakim Shamsan, the University’s General Director of Projects, presented an update on implementation stages, completion rates, and timelines for project completion.
At the conclusion of the meeting, attendees underscored the importance of intensifying efforts and expediting work to complete all development and rehabilitation projects as scheduled, further strengthening the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences’ readiness to achieve international academic accreditation.
