PhD Degree Awarded to Researcher Ahmed Al-Ameri in Physical Education Sciences

Researcher Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Al-Ameri was awarded a PhD degree in Physical Education Sciences for his dissertation titled: The Impact of a Training Program Incorporating Small-Sided Games, Modified Games, and Practice Matches on Improving the Physical, Skill-Based, and Physiological Variables of Football Player, which was submitted to the Department of Physical Education, Faculty of Physical Education –Sana’a University. The dissertation defense was held on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The dissertation aimed to investigate the effect of a training program based on small-sided games, modified games, and practice matches on improving the physical, skill-based, and physiological variables of football players.
The findings demonstrated that the proposed training program significantly improved a range of physical performance variables, including endurance, speed, strength, flexibility, agility, and coordination. It also enhanced several technical football skills, such as ball control, passing, dribbling, kicking, throw-ins, and shooting. In addition, the program contributed to improvements in key physiological variables, including anaerobic power, phosphagen capacity, lactic anaerobic capacity, total anaerobic capacity, and maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂ max).
The researcher recommended that football coaches incorporate small-sided and modified games as integral components of training programs, emphasizing their effectiveness as modern training methods. He also urged the relevant authorities responsible for selecting Yemeni national team coaches to adopt and adapt the proposed training program according to players’ performance levels by adjusting its intensity and training load to suit their capabilities.
The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, postgraduate students, researchers, as well as the researcher’s colleagues and family members.
