Sana’a University Organizes Scientific Day on Thyroid Cancer with Broad Participation from Medical Professionals

Under the patronage of Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences hosted the Thyroid Cancer Scientific Day as part of the monthly scientific activities program in surgical oncology. The event was organized in coordination with the Yemeni Council for Medical & Health Specializations and witnessed broad participation from academic figures, consultants, physicians, researchers, and postgraduate students.
In his remarks during the event, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti affirmed that Sana’a University remains committed to supporting specialized scientific activities as a key pillar of advancing continuing medical education. He noted that such initiatives contribute to strengthening the integration between academic knowledge and practical application within the healthcare sector.
He explained that the university places special emphasis on promoting scientific research and updating medical knowledge in line with global developments, thereby enhancing the capabilities of medical professionals to provide high-quality healthcare services.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti also stressed the importance of translating the outcomes of these scientific forums into practical applications within hospitals and healthcare centers in ways that positively impact the quality of medical care provided to citizens. He called on physicians, consultants, and academics to actively engage with these activities and contribute to enriching their scientific content.
The event was attended by the Assistant Rector for Medical Faculties and Hospitals Affairs, Dr. Abdulhafidh Thawabah; the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari; as well as a large number of faculty members, consultants from various medical specialties, and students enrolled in MD and Arab Board programs.
Welcoming participants, Prof. Al-Shahari stated that organizing this scientific day falls within the faculty’s strategy to strengthen continuing medical education and create an interactive scientific environment that brings together various medical disciplines.
He noted that the faculty is implementing a plan to organize a monthly scientific day aimed at keeping pace with scientific developments, linking theoretical knowledge with clinical practice, and preparing medical professionals capable of managing different medical conditions according to modern scientific standards.
Prof. Al-Shahari added that the selection of thyroid cancer as the topic of this event reflects its clinical importance and the rapid developments taking place in methods of diagnosis, treatment, and surgery.
The scientific program featured a series of specialized lectures delivered by consultants and academics from different medical fields. Topics included radiological and pathological diagnosis, medical and surgical management, the role of anesthesia and intensive care, interventional therapies, radioactive iodine treatment, and the latest advances in systemic therapies for thyroid cancer.
The sessions also witnessed extensive scientific discussions and expert interventions focusing on the importance of early diagnosis and the accuracy of histological and radiological examinations in determining appropriate treatment plans, alongside a review of the latest international recommendations in the field.
At the conclusion of the event, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences announced that all participants would receive accredited certificates of participation approved by the Yemeni Council for Medical & Health Specializations, as part of efforts to support continuing medical education and promote the professional development of healthcare personnel.
