University President Inspects Faculty of Medicine and Directs Measures to Expedite WFME International Accreditation

As part of Sana’a University’s ongoing efforts to enhance education quality and achieve academic excellence, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, the Rector of the university, conducted a field visit today to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences to review work progress and preparations for meeting the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) accreditation requirements.
The visit began with an extensive evaluation meeting dedicated to discussing the latest updates on the accreditation plan. The meeting was attended by Prof. Saleh Bahaj, an international quality expert, who presented a comprehensive report on the progress achieved and the remaining challenges to fulfill the required standards.
The meeting was also attended by Prof. Ibrahim Al-Muta’a, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs; Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, Dean of the Faculty; Prof. Anwar Mughalles, Prof. Arwa Othman, and Prof. Ahmed Mujahid (Vice Deans of the Faculty); heads of the academic standards’ committees; and Dr. Mustafa Shari, Assistant Secretary-General of the University.
During the meeting, the University Rector affirmed that: “The vision of Sana’a University’s leadership places the advancement of educational and research quality at the forefront of its priorities. The pursuit of international accreditation is our strategic compass for achieving global recognition.”
He further explained that achieving international accreditation is a global endorsement of the faculty’s educational quality and alignment with top academic standards. It reflects the university’s commitment to graduating competent medical professionals capable of competing regionally and internationally.
The Rector praised the relentless efforts of the faculty’s leadership and teaching staff, commending its continued distinction as the cornerstone of medical education and expertise in Yemen. He noted that the ongoing advancements in curricula, facilities, and laboratories reflect the university’s clear orientation toward academic and practical excellence.
During the meeting, the Rector directed a set of urgent measures, including:
Accelerating maintenance and academic equipment according to a clear timeline and high-quality standards.
Comprehensively upgrading laboratories and facilities to meet WFME accreditation requirements.
Launching an expansion plan for academic and service facilities to meet student and educational needs.
Activating the role of the Quality Assurance Unit in continuous field monitoring of the application of academic performance standards.
Strengthening coordination between the faculty administration and university leadership to ensure faster progress toward full accreditation readiness.
Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, Dean of the Faculty, reviewed recent achievements and confirmed that the qualitative improvements witnessed by the faculty were the result of joint academic and administrative efforts. He reaffirmed the faculty’s commitment to developing medical education, research, and community service in line with international accreditation standards.
Following the meeting, the University Rector—accompanied by the faculty’s Dean, Dr. Mohammed Al-Shahari; Mr. Adel Al-Hababi, the Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs; Dr. Mustafa Shari, Assistant Secretary-General; and Eng. Abdul Hakim Shamsan, Director-General of Projects—conducted a field tour. The tour covered several vital facilities, including the labs, the Quality Assurance Unit, the control rooms, the lecture halls, and the health clinic, where the Rector inspected the progress of ongoing maintenance and preparations.
At the conclusion of the visit, the University Rector stressed the necessity of adhering to the directives issued during the meeting with precision and speed. He affirmed the university leadership’s full support for all efforts aimed at elevating the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences to the ranks of global medical faculties, in a way that serves the national health sector and enhances Sana’a University’s position regionally and internationally.
