PhD Degree Awarded to Mr. Mohammed Homran in Geography and Geoinformatics

Mr. Mohammed Ali Ahmed Ali Homran was awarded a PhD degree in the major of Political Geography and Geopolitics for his dissertation titled, “Yemeni’s Maritime Geostrategy in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean,” which was submitted to Department of Geography and Geoinformatics, Faculty of Arts and Humanities – Sana’a University. The PhD dissertation defense was held on Saturday, 25 October 2025.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following members:

The dissertation aimed to analyze and explore the impact of unifying Yemeni maritime geostrategy in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean region.
The dissertation reached several important findings, including:
- The failure of Western liberal theories to provide solutions for maritime problems.
- Yemen and the Red Sea and Indian Ocean region are characterized by regional integration and homogeneity.
- The Yemeni maritime force constitutes the center of gravity in the elements of comprehensive power.
- The study presents a practical and applicable model for achieving Yemeni and regional Arab leadership.
The dissertation presented several key recommendations, including:
- Forming a comprehensive national maritime committee to unify the vision, political administration, and maritime strategy of Yemen.
- Applying a security and defense maritime strategy to enhance the commercial and military naval fleet forces.
- Strengthening and integrating the unified management of maritime strategic knowledge in maritime research centers.
The PhD dissertation was examined and recommended by the Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance and approval. The PhD defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, interested students, the candidate’s colleagues, and family members.
