Sana’a University President and Dean of Faculty of Medicine Participate in Workshop on Medical Doctorate Bylaw Project in Yemeni Universities

Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, together with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, participated in a workshop on the Medical Doctorate (MD) Bylaw Project for Yemeni universities. The event was organized by the Higher Education Sector of the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research.
The workshop aimed to discuss and approve the draft bylaw designed to standardize the principles, rules, and procedures governing the MD program across Yemeni universities. It seeks to ensure the development of competent physicians distinguished by effective communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, academic and research excellence, and professional and ethical integrity.
In his opening address, the Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Hasan Al-Saadi, underscored the significance of approving the MD bylaw as a means to produce highly qualified medical specialists committed to the highest standards of professional and ethical practice.
He described the bylaw project as a notable milestone that adds to the academic and scientific achievements realized in recent years, representing an essential step forward in educational reform and the enhancement of learning outcomes to better serve the community.
Meanwhile, Prof. Hatem Al-Dois, the Vice Minister of Education & Scientific Research, emphasized that the bylaw is the product of years of extensive consultation and study, culminating in its final draft. He noted that it aims to strengthen trust-based medical relationships and to simplify the communication of complex medical information for both patients and healthcare professionals.
Prof. Al-Dois described the completion of the bylaw as the result of collaborative efforts between the academic and medical sectors, affirming the broad consensus on adopting and implementing it as a key component in advancing both scientific and practical medical education.
During the workshop, which was also attended by Prof. Ali Al-Kaf, the Chairman of the Bylaw Drafting Committee, Dr. Adel Al-Ghaili, presented an overview of the project, outlining its objectives, methodology, structure, and main courses and semesters.
Dr. Al-Ghaili explained that the MD program is a professional and academic degree extending over five to six years, and is divided into two main stages:
- Part I: A 24-month phase covering essential academic courses combined with general clinical training in hospitals and accredited training centers.

Part II: Extending from 36 to 48 months, depending on the program description and approved curriculum.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants called for the prompt approval and implementation of the MD bylaw in Yemeni universities, affirming its role in enhancing the quality of medical education and ensuring alignment with international academic standards.
