Master’s Degree Awarded to Mr. Salah Al-Deen Al-Emad in Biological Sciences

Mr. Salah Al-Deen Nagm Al-Deen Mani’ Al-Emad was awarded a Master’s degree in the major of zoology with an average of (Excellent) and a grade of (94%) for his thesis titled “The Prevalence of Zoonotic and Infectious Diseases in Livestock Exported from the Horn of Africa Quarantine Stations to Yemen,” which was submitted to Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science – Sana’a University. The defense was held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, corresponding to Safar 25, 1447 Hijri.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following members:

The thesis aimed to investigate the prevalence of Brucellosis (Malta Fever), Rift Valley Fever (RVF), and Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) in livestock exported to Yemen from international quarantine stations in Djibouti and Somalia. The thesis also sought to evaluate the role of animal quarantine facilities in mitigating the risks of transboundary animal diseases.
Among the key findings, the thesis concluded that Brucellosis, Rift Valley Fever, and Foot-and-Mouth Disease pose a moderate to low risk in livestock exported from the Horn of Africa to Yemen.
The thesis presented several key recommendations, including:
- Strictly enforcing comprehensive quarantine procedures within the official, accredited quarantine stations for all livestock exported from the Horn of Africa to Yemen.
- Implementing the same comprehensive procedures by the competent Yemeni authorities for all imported livestock upon arrival in Yemen.
The thesis was examined and recommended by the Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance and approval. The defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, interested individuals, in addition to the candidate’s colleagues and family members.
