Sana’a University Hosts Second Scientific Conference for Veterinary Medicine Graduation Research Projects

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Sana’a University hosted today the Second Scientific Conference for the discussion of graduation research projects presented by students of the third graduating cohort. The event aimed to highlight the faculty’s research role in serving the community and supporting the development of the livestock sector under the slogan: “Scientific Research: The Veterinarian’s Path Toward Excellence.”
The conference featured the presentation and discussion of eight scientific research projects prepared by 45 male and female students. The studies addressed topics related to animal diseases, veterinary diagnostics, and animal production, in addition to research on parasites, epidemics, and the use of medicinal plants and natural therapies in veterinary medicine.
During the opening session, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for the Animal Production Sector, Dr. Abdulraouf Al-Shawkani, emphasized that the current stage requires strengthening the role of veterinarians in the field and aligning university education outcomes with community needs. He highlighted the importance of expanding veterinary services in rural and agricultural areas to help protect livestock resources and improve local production.
Dr. Al-Shawkani explained that the ministry is working toward enhancing veterinary and agricultural extension services and strengthening partnerships with academic institutions and the private sector in ways that support small-scale farmers and dairy and poultry producers, while contributing to development and economic recovery efforts.
For his part, the Rector’s Assistant for Medical Faculties and Hospitals Affairs, Dr. Abdulhafidh Thawaba, stated that the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine represents one of the university’s specialized faculties that reflect its orientation toward disciplines linked to community needs and sustainable development. He stressed that veterinary medicine plays a central role in safeguarding both human and animal health and limiting the spread of zoonotic diseases.
He also praised the scientific quality of the research projects presented and their strong connection to practical field realities, emphasizing the importance of supporting scientific research and preparing highly qualified veterinary professionals.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Abdulraqib Al-Shami, explained that the conference forms part of the faculty’s efforts to strengthen a culture of research and innovation among students and to connect graduation projects with the critical challenges facing the livestock sector, thereby contributing to practical scientific solutions.
He affirmed that the faculty continues to work toward advancing educational and research processes and preparing qualified graduates equipped with the scientific and practical skills necessary to serve society and contribute to national development.
The Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Saleh Al-Omaisi, noted that the conference provides an important academic platform for developing students’ abilities in research, analysis, and academic presentation, while preparing them for the labor market with a high level of competence and reinforcing the faculty’s role in serving society and the environment.
In addition, a speech delivered on behalf of the University Student Forum (USF) by Rashid Al-Qadi reviewed the stages of the faculty’s development since its establishment and highlighted its role in preparing specialized veterinary professionals capable of competing professionally and meeting community needs.
The conference was attended by a number of academic leaders, faculty members, researchers, interested participants, and students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Sana’a University.
