The Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Hasan Al-Saadi, and the Minister of Health and Environment, Dr. Ali Shaiban, conducted an inspection visit to the Cardiac Center at Kuwait University Hospital to review the level of performance and the medical and therapeutic services provided to patients. They were received by Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, Chairman of the Center’s Board of Directors and Sana’a University Rector, and Dr. Salah Al-Shawki, Director of the Center.
During the visit, the two ministers, accompanied by the University Rector, toured several departments of the center and hospital, including the cardiac catheterization unit, cardiac intensive care unit, cardiac surgery department, pediatric cardiac surgery department, in addition to the dialysis and emergency units. They reviewed the advanced medical and technical equipment and assessed the level of healthcare services provided to citizens.
The delegation also listened to a detailed briefing from Dr. Salah Al-Shawki, Director of the Cardiac Center, on the nature of the center’s work, the diagnostic and therapeutic services it provides, and the operations of the cardiac catheterization department, which has recently been equipped with the most advanced catheterization device in the country. The new equipment is expected to enhance the center’s capacity to perform specialized cardiac interventions and reduce pressure on patients.
On the sidelines of the visit, a meeting was held bringing together the two ministers, the University Rector, the Center Director, and the medical and administrative staff. Discussions focused on the center’s conditions, workflow, and the level of medical services provided to citizens, particularly in relation to offering specialized care at affordable costs that help ease patients’ financial and medical burdens.
The meeting also reviewed the center’s most significant achievements during the recent period, particularly the expansion of cardiac catheterization services, the continuation of medical qualification and training programs, and the completion of final preparations for the open-heart surgery department, which is expected to be inaugurated in the near future. This development will enable patients to receive cardiac surgery services within the country and reduce the hardship of traveling abroad for treatment.
During the visit, the Minister of Education and Scientific Research and the University Rector also reviewed the training process at the Egyptian Cardiology Fellowship Center, which is recognized as the first and one of the accredited specialized fellowship centers in Yemen. The center currently hosts around 28 physicians from various governorates who receive training under the supervision of leading consultants and specialists in cardiology and cardiac surgery.
During the meeting, the Center Director presented a brief overview of the center’s major accomplishments, explaining that the administration has succeeded in significantly reducing the costs of cardiac catheterization procedures and stents compared to private hospitals and centers. Diagnostic catheterization procedures are provided at approximately 80,000 Yemeni Riyals, while therapeutic catheterization and stent implantation cost around 850,000 Yemeni Riyals. In addition, the center provides emergency cardiac care, medications, and medical supplies free of charge, alongside free dialysis services.
The Minister of Education and Scientific Research praised the efforts of the hospital leadership, the center’s administration, and its medical and technical staff, commending the humanitarian services they continue to provide despite the current circumstances. He emphasized the importance of humane treatment of patients and consideration of their health and living conditions, in addition to the continued development of the center’s medical and educational services.
For his part, the Minister of Health and Environment affirmed the ministry’s readiness to provide all possible support to the center in order to strengthen its role in serving patients and expanding cardiac catheterization and surgery services, considering it one of the country’s vital medical centers serving a wide segment of citizens.
