Sana’a University Highlights the Role of Scientific Research in Community Service at Symposium on Poultry Production and Food Security

Under the patronage of the University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment at Sana’a University, in partnership with the private sector, organized a scientific symposium entitled “Poultry Production and Human Nutrition: Towards Sustainable Production and Safe Food.” The event brought together a distinguished group of academics, researchers, industry experts, and specialists to explore strategies to advance Yemen’s poultry industry and strengthen national food security.
The symposium was inaugurated in the presence of the Acting Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Mr. Ammar Al-Karim, alongside senior government officials, representatives of public institutions and private-sector organizations, and stakeholders from the livestock and food security sectors.
In his opening remarks, Member of the Supreme Political Council, Lt. Gen. Sultan Al-Samai, emphasized the vital role played by Sana’a University in serving society through scientific research and specialized academic activities. He praised the university’s sustained scholarly efforts in addressing national priority issues, noting that the poultry industry represents a key pillar of food security and economic development. He called for stronger support for the sector and expanded collaboration between academic institutions, government agencies, and the private sector to promote its development based on modern scientific principles.
Addressing the symposium, the University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to fulfilling its national and academic mission through scientific research, knowledge production, and the analysis of societal challenges. He stressed that the university seeks to translate research outcomes into practical solutions that address developmental priorities while strengthening innovation and supporting sustainable development.
The Rector further explained that Sana’a University is committed to aligning its academic and research capabilities with community needs by fostering a culture of scientific inquiry and innovation and promoting research that serves productive sectors, particularly agriculture and animal production. He added that organizing such scientific forums reflects the university’s role as a center of expertise and a platform for constructive academic dialogue aimed at generating practical solutions that contribute to community development and national food security.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Dr. Abdulraouf Al-Shawkani, Deputy Minister for the Livestock Sector, emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the ministry and Sana’a University to benefit from the university’s academic and research expertise in advancing the poultry industry, improving production efficiency, and enhancing the quality of locally produced poultry products in support of food security.
The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Dr. Hisham Al-Jabali, noted that the symposium reflects the faculty’s scientific and societal responsibility to support productive sectors by providing a platform that brings together researchers, experts, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to examine the major challenges and opportunities facing the poultry industry and to develop evidence-based recommendations for its advancement.
The symposium also featured a documentary highlighting the current state of the poultry industry in the Republic of Yemen, showcasing its strengths, the challenges it faces, and the opportunities available to expand its contribution to national food security.
Scientific sessions covered seven major themes, including poultry production, genetic improvement, poultry nutrition, veterinary health, zoonotic diseases, human nutrition, and clinical nutrition. The presentations were delivered by distinguished scholars and researchers from Sana’a, Dhamar, and Ibb Universities and were followed by productive discussions that generated valuable insights and practical proposals for improving the poultry sector and enhancing the quality and safety of food products.
At the conclusion of the symposium, participants adopted a number of recommendations, including strengthening applied scientific research in poultry production, expanding programs in genetic improvement, nutrition, and veterinary health, and reinforcing partnerships between universities, government institutions, and the private sector. These measures are expected to improve production efficiency, promote sustainability, and strengthen food security in the Republic of Yemen.
The symposium forms part of Sana’a University’s ongoing commitment to expanding its role in community service, strengthening partnerships with national institutions, and harnessing scientific research and academic expertise to support sustainable agricultural development and provide evidence-based solutions to food security challenges.
