Sana’a University Concludes Cultural and Artistic Competition Marking the Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday and Honoring Winners

Sana’a University today concluded its cultural and artistic competition organized by the Vice-Rector’s Office for Student Affairs, represented by the General Administration of Student Activities, in cooperation with the University Student Forum (USF), as part of the university’s activities marking the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday for the year 1448 AH. The competition attracted broad participation from students across the university’s faculties.
Held over four days, the competition featured a range of cultural and artistic domains, including Qur’an memorization, devotional chanting in praise of the Prophet, theater, traditional folklore performances such as al-Bara’a and al-Zamil, and poetry. The activities provided students with opportunities to showcase their talents and develop their creative and cultural skills.
At the conclusion of the competition, the University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, commended the high standard of student participation and engagement. He emphasized the importance of cultural and artistic activities in supporting students’ personal development, enhancing their skills, and fostering creativity, self-expression, and community engagement.
He noted that commemorating the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday provides an opportunity to reflect on the Prophet’s life and the humanitarian and ethical values it represents and to translate these values into positive conduct within the university and wider society. He also emphasized that university students constitute an active and influential segment of society and that the university’s role extends beyond academic education to include capacity building, talent development, and the promotion of social responsibility.
The competition included several categories of Qur’an memorization, covering memorization of the entire Qur’an, half of the Qur’an, and ten Juz’, in addition to competitions in devotional chanting, al-Bara’a and al-Zamil, theater, and poetry. Specialized assessment committees evaluated the entries according to established criteria.
The program also featured interactive cultural competitions for the audience covering topics related to the Prophet’s biography, Islamic history, and traditional arts, broadening participation and strengthening interaction between students and attendees.
The university administration confirmed that organizing the competition forms part of its student activities programs aimed at identifying and developing student talents, strengthening interaction among students from different faculties and academic disciplines, and creating a university environment that encourages creativity, participation, and learning beyond the classroom.
At the conclusion of the event, the University Rector, accompanied by the Director General of Student Activities and Youth Welfare, Mr. Abdulqader Al-Ghurbani, honored the winners in the various competition categories with certificates of appreciation and financial prizes. Members of the judging committees were also recognized in appreciation of their efforts in managing the competitions and evaluating the participating entries.
The event forms part of Sana’a University’s broader commitment to promoting cultural, artistic, and student activities as an integral component of the university experience, providing students with opportunities to develop their talents and skills and strengthen their academic, cultural, and community engagement.
