Executive Master’s Degree Awarded to Mr. Murghim Al-Soufi in Public Administration

Mr. Murghim Ali Ahmed Al-Soufi was awarded an Executive Master’s Degree in Public Administration for his thesis titled: The Impact of Governance on Achieving Sustainable Development Goals: An Applied Study on Civil Society Organizations in the Capital Secretariat, which was submitted to the Center of Public Administration – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The study aimed to:
Examine the impact of governance practices in civil society organizations in the Capital Secretariat on achieving sustainable development goals across their economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
The study yielded a number of key findings summarized as follows:
There was a statistically significant effect of applying governance dimensions on achieving sustainable development goals.
The level of governance implementation in civil society organizations was moderate.
The level of achievement of sustainable development goals within these organizations was also moderate.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:
Strengthening the capacities of civil society organizations in the areas of transparency, rule of law, strategic vision, and accountability through integrated training and capacity-building programs, as well as developing institutional systems that ensure the sustainable integration of governance practices.
Aligning civil society organizations’ programs and projects more closely with the economic, social, and environmental sustainable development goals, while establishing monitoring and evaluation plans to enhance their impact on these dimensions.
Increasing focus on sustainable economic projects and environmental programs alongside social activities to ensure balanced achievement of all dimensions of sustainable development.
Developing organizational structures within organizations through clear mechanisms for delegation, oversight, and accountability to improve their effectiveness in achieving sustainable development goals.
Adopting effective governance policies and practices across all organizational programs and projects as a core strategy for enhancing contributions to sustainable development goals.
Reinforcing the importance of applying governance principles across all administrative levels through training programs and internal workshops.
Utilizing the expertise of long-serving employees in planning, implementation, and monitoring, while organizing knowledge-sharing and training programs for less experienced staff to ensure effective governance implementation.
The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
