dUniversity Rector Reviews Progress Toward WFME International Accreditation at Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences

Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, chaired an expanded meeting today at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences to review progress on the accreditation process of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and assess the level of completion of its requirements and standards. The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Council for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance (CAQA), Prof. Adel Al-Matari; the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari; and a number of academic and administrative leaders from the faculty.
The meeting reviewed the latest developments in the WFME accreditation process, including academic, technical, and administrative measures that have been completed, as well as ongoing modernization and development projects within the faculty’s educational and research facilities. These efforts are aimed at enhancing the faculty’s readiness to meet internationally recognized standards in medical education.
During the meeting, national expert Prof. Saleh Bahaj presented a comprehensive report on the progress of the accreditation file, outlining achievements in implementing international requirements and standards, as well as efforts undertaken to ensure the quality of academic programs and align them with global best practices in medical education.
Participants also discussed the remaining stages required to complete the accreditation process, emphasizing the importance of continued coordination between the university and the Academic Accreditation Council to ensure that both national and international requirements are fulfilled in an integrated and timely manner.
Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti affirmed that the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences has made significant progress toward meeting the requirements for WFME accreditation. He noted that the current phase requires sustained efforts and a thorough review of all standards and criteria to ensure successful completion of the process in accordance with internationally recognized benchmarks.
He explained that WFME accreditation is among the most prestigious international accreditations in medical education and that obtaining it would strengthen international recognition of the faculty’s academic programs and graduates. It would also create broader opportunities for graduates in postgraduate studies, professional training, and international medical practice.
The Rector reaffirmed the university leadership’s commitment to supporting the faculty’s efforts, whether through the completion of infrastructure and equipment upgrades or through close monitoring of the accreditation implementation plan. He commended the achievements accomplished so far and praised the dedication of the academic and administrative staff in reaching this advanced stage.
For his part, the Chairman of the Council for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance (CAQA) Prof. Adel Al-Matari, emphasized that supporting the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in its pursuit of WFME accreditation aligns with national efforts to enhance the quality of higher education and improve academic outcomes in accordance with international standards. He also praised the progress achieved by the faculty in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shahari, stated that the faculty has completed a substantial portion of the WFME accreditation requirements, both in terms of academic program development and the modernization of infrastructure and educational facilities. He confirmed that work is continuing at an accelerated pace to complete the remaining requirements in the coming period.
The participants reviewed the progress of projects aimed at upgrading educational and research laboratories, noting that most of the required modern equipment has already been received, while efforts continue to complete the remaining enhancements. They also confirmed the completion of the Pathology Museum, which represents an important educational and scientific addition that will support teaching and training activities within the faculty.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants stressed the importance of continuing implementation in accordance with the approved plan and accelerating progress across all academic and technical areas to ensure that all WFME accreditation requirements are completed before the final visit of the international evaluation team.
