Mission

The Department of Geography and Geoinformatics is dedicated to staying at the forefront of advancements in geographic sciences and methodologies. It strives to develop highly qualified Yemeni professionals, equipped with the scientific expertise and technical proficiency to excel in specialized sub-disciplines within geography through applying scientific methods and modern techniques to prepare graduates for success in today’s labor market. Furthermore, the department actively offers valuable scientific and technical consultations to service and research institutions across Yemen. and conduct specialized training courses in physical and human geography, geographic information systems, and remote sensing.

Vision

To achieve a leading position in the field of geography and geoinformatics, integrating this field with other disciplines, to play a pioneering role in academic teaching, research, and specialized training across various sub-disciplines of geography and geoinformatics, demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence by offering rigorous academic programs and organizing conferences, workshops, and scientific seminars.

Department Aims:

  1. Affirming and enhancing the leading role of the Geography Department in scientific and technological advancements, thus bolstering its academic repute for premier education and training within the university to elevate the department’s recognition as a distinguished authority in population and urban studies and development, environmental and natural resource matters, as well as geographic information systems and remote sensing.
  2. Preparing highly skilled graduates equipped with the latest scientific knowledge and specialized capabilities that enable them to offer exceptional scientific and practical services across various professional fields.
  3. Developing applied and field technical skills among department students, fostering a spirit of independent thinking that enables them to engage with diverse geographic and spatial contexts, thereby serving the field of science and utilizing it for the betterment of Yemeni society.
  4. Preparing specialized national cadres to meet the demands of the labor market in areas such as planning, natural and environmental resources, geographic information systems, and remote sensing.
  5. Continuously developing the curriculum to align with the evolving nature of specialized disciplines within geography and the changing demands of the labor market in geographic information systems, remote sensing, population and urban studies, development, environment, and natural resources.
